Our Story
Umbrellas were fashion statements in the social circuits of Paris and London in the early 18th and 19th centuries. Our goal is to recreate this passion in the 21st.
Our founder is an avid traveler, having visiting more than 25 countries all over the world. During a visit to East Asia in 2009, he noticed umbrellas were esteemed for quality and design. Upon returning home, it was impossible to find umbrellas of the same superior craftsmanship in New York City, one of the fashion capitals of the world.
Since 2010, Viola Umbrella has curated fashion umbrellas from top international designers, including Pasotti, Marchesato, Lisbeth Dahl, Molly Marais, Lindy Lou and more. The retailer’s vision is to change the public’s perception about the traditional umbrella, from a utilitarian accessory to a must-have fashion piece that is worthy of admiration and attention. Viola’s collection of umbrellas are distinguished for their unique frames, fabrics, colors and handles that are ready to accentuate any outfit or style.
Today our umbrellas are sold in retail outlets, pop-up shops and online channels. They've been featured in traditional and new media, as well as a national television series and a major motion picture. We have close relationships with many international brands and designers, which gives us quick and exclusive access to source new fabrics and styles. Although we carry a limited and rotating catalog, we can special order and/or custom design any umbrella for your specific preference or need.
